We hope you enjoy your stay in our country and our homestay program. First and foremost, let us help you to create and receive a good first impression:
• Be curious and careful not to judge the differences you will encounter here. We are tolerant of differences in Canada – it’s one of the secrets to making a community and society that works for everyone.
• You will find differences among your homestay hosts as well: they are as varied and inspiring as our land and our history – like you, they are not like anyone else. You will find differences among their cultural backgrounds, races and family structures, as well as lifestyles. Some families include traditional homemakers to be sure – moms or dads who dedicate themselves to raising their children and are active in their communities as volunteers; other hosts include moms and dads who work outside their home during the day and have very busy lives; still other hosts are single moms, with children; or grandparents who have retired with lots of time to spend with you.
• Whatever their family structure or their background, or the colour of their skin, you can be assured that like us, your host is interested in you, ready to help you and wants your experience here to be full of happy memories.
